Carpet Cleaning Myths

Carpet cleaning myths

Myth: Steam cleaning will ruin my carpet.

Answer: Most carpet cleaners use the hot water extraction system, which is also known as steam cleaning. Steam cleaning is many customers perforation, because of the thoroughness of this method. The steam cleaning is the most recommended, but if done by a non-professional or a un-education cleaner, he might over soak your carpets and this could cause more problems to appear.

Myth: My carpet doesn’t look dirty, so I don’t need it cleaned.

Answer: Many people have this same train of thought in their minds that if there carpet doesn’t look dirty it doesn’t need to be cleaned. However some carpets can hide dirt and soil more than others. If you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not there. All dirt weather it’s hidden or not acts as an abrasive. This can result in early wear and tear of your carpet, and even loss of color.

Myth: I might over vacuum my carpet.

Answer: This cannot be done. There is no way to over vacuum your carpets, even if you vacuum faithfully every day, and then twice on Sunday your carpet will not get damaged.

Myth: Carpet is more expensive and harder to maintain than hard floor surfaces.

Answer: A good maintained carpet only needs to be vacuumed twice a weekly, a periodic extraction is necessary. The sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and buffering that you need to do for the hard floor surfaces is much more demanding and costly than carpet.

here are some tips for your labor day

Sun exposure – Protect your skin from over-exposure to the sun by - seeking shade, covering up, getting a hat, wearing sunglasses to protect yours eyes and rubbing on sunscreen. Use moderate amounts of suntan lotion with a high sun-protection factor (SPF), even on cloudy days.

Stay Hydrated-picnics, cook-outs, or last trips to the beach, bring coolers with ice and bottled water to make sure that you stay hydrated throughout the day

Driving Safety-Before you hit the road, be aware that the roads will probably be more congested during the holiday weekend. To avoid more traveling headaches, do a quick check on your car to make sure everything is operating properly. Make sure your coolant, oil and power steering levels are sufficient for the long drive. You’ll also want to make sure the tire pressure is sufficient. And – this should go without saying – if you’re planning on driving somewhere where you’ll be drinking alcoholic beverages, make sure you have a sober, designated driver. Don’t ruin your or anyone else’s Labor Day weekend by driving while intoxicated.

Bed bugs

August 23rd, 2010 • By: Joseph Roman Carpet Cleaning, Cleaning, News, Restoration, Water Extraction

Bed bugs

Bed bugs are tiny bugs that have no wings. Their color can range from a white color when first hatched to a dark rusty brown color after feasting. They are a nocturnal insect, which means they sleep during the day and feast at night. Bed bugs are attracted to humans because of our body heat. These tiny bugs favor feasting on our shoulders and arms. Hotels, motels, apartments, shelters and prisons are mainly were bed bugs can be found. Simply because of the high occupant turnover rate. This does not mean these places are unsanitary, it’s because an occupant has ran into bed bugs at some point and is carrying them with them in their bags clothes etc.

Females can lay one to twelve eggs a day. It can take up to 10 days for an egg to hatch. So you can say these tiny bugs multiply fast. When first hatched the bed bugs has to have a feeding in order to advance to the 1st stage in their life called the 1st nymph stage. Once the bug has had its first feeding it will turn white and grow larger. A bed bug had to feast five times before becoming an adult.

A bite from one of these bugs is painless, but over time the skin will become irritated and inflamed. Also some people experiences sever itching that can last for several hours, or even days. It has been reported that some people have even developed stress, and insomnia with bed bug infections. Infestation can be recognized from stains of blood from crushed bugs or fecal spots and eggs shells might be found in tiny corners of tables, walls and any little crevice a bed bug might want to make his hiding spot.

It is important to carefully inspect and bags or clothing that you bring into your home. Frequently vacuuming your premises and mattress, and washing your clothes and curtains in very hot water can help control your home from infestation. Bed bugs are not caused by poor sanitation. Infestations must be introduced by bringing in an item that contains bugs or eggs associated with it, but poor sanitation and clutter can make it more difficult to control or keep bed bugs out.

If your house becomes infested with bed bugs go ahead and start the pre-treatment methods. Remove all clutter and clean out every corner of all tables, walls, dressers. Also your mattress and head boards should be cleaned and inspected. There are many treatments you can buy at the stores for bed bug infestation, but if its more serious than a treatment can handle its highly recommend you hire a professional like Accurate Care Services

Health Concerns:

Bed bugs have been implicated in the transmission of a wide variety of infectious agents, although their status as vectors is uncertain. It has been suggested that they might play a role in the spread of Hepatitis B; however experimental evidence does not support this. Bed bug bites becomes itchy welts on the skin that can cause allergic reactions.

Removing grease from your carpet

August 23rd, 2010 • By: Joseph Roman Carpet Cleaning, News, Restoration

Removing grease from your carpet

Removing grease from your carpet might seem tricky, the sooner you can treat it the better.

1. Start by blotting the area that has grease with a clean lightly colored cloth. Always remember to blot not scrub. Work from the outside to the center, that way you’re not spreading the stain.

2. Spray the grease with the appropriate cleaning chemicals for your carpet. You want to make sure the mixture you are using is safe you’re the type of carpet that you have. A dry, absorbent, cleaning compound may be used as a substitute to minimize drying time.

Nail Polish Remover - Two types of nail polish removers are available. One type contains acetone, a dry cleaning solvent. Use the same precautions as with other dry cleaning solutions. The second type contains amyl acetate, which is used in many paint, oil, and grease (POG) removers. Many POG removers leave residues that may cause rapid soiling. When using a POG remover, always rinse the area thoroughly with a dry solvent. (See Residue Precautions.)

Solvent - A non-flammable spot removal solution, or dry cleaning type solvent, is preferred. Exercise caution when using a solvent. Never pour it directly onto the carpet or allow it to reach the backing, because it can damage the latex that holds the primary and secondary backings together. Acceptable solvents include Carbona®, Energine®, K2R®, Goof-Off®, etc.

Detergent Solution - Mix one fourth (1/4) teaspoon of a liquid dishwashing detergent per one (1) cup of lukewarm water. NEVER USE A STRONGER CONCENTRATION! Thorough rinsing is necessary to remove detergent residues that may cause rapid soiling. It may be necessary to rinse with warm water several times to completely remove residues. (See Residue Precautions.) Care should be used in selecting a detergent. Never use a laundry detergent of any type, because laundry detergents may contain optical brighteners (fluorescent dyes) that dye the fiber. Do not select an automatic dishwashing detergent because many contain bleaching agents that destroy dyes and some fibers.

3. With a clean dry cloth blot the stain until no more shows up on your cloth. You might have to spray the stain again and dry it up more than once depending on how deep the stain is on your carpet.

4. Then spray the spot with water and blot dry until all the chemicals you used on the stain is up. Leaving residue from the cleaning supplies could collect more dirt and create another stain in the same spot. Also use cold water, which will help from letting the grease settle more into the carpet.

5. Let the area dry and then vacuum the area to return the fiber texture in the carpet back to normal.
